PRO – SURF LIKE A PRO

A complete new shape gives more speed to set up and complete manoeuvres, more held through bottom turns in bigger surf and greater response. New rocker is more forgiving on steeper drops, flatter deck feels less corky and new fin positions refine the control and drive through turns. Thinner nose profile reduces swing weight for more radical snaps, thinner tail gives more bite and response through turns.

There is a new size range that is slightly longer in length and introduced is a slightly smaller model of 6’10”, suitable for lighter higher skilled riders, with a thinner lower volume model and tested and approved by Riki Horikoshi from Japan.

Pro series is offered in Blue Carbon Pro with FCS 2 side fin boxes and the Limited series which includes normal FCS side fin boxes.

The 9’6” GUN is available in the Blue Carbon construction with additional UD carbon stringers and heavier glass cloths to increase the total breakage strength to handle bigger surf.

The PRO design is a performance shape for serious riders seeking world-class waves.

What size PRO is right for me?

6’10” x 24” – The smallest model at 61L is ideal for high skilled and lightweight riders. The narrow nose outline, thin rails and increased rocker over the predecessor 6’8” contributes to more control, speed and response. A flatter deck gives you increased comfort and stability.

7’0” x 24” – Between rail shape, outline and fin position, the 7’0” delivers more control in bigger surf and carries its flow to link manoeuvres. Leonard Nika loved the feeling of the new model, giving confidence to improve and progress his surfing to the next level!

7’5” x 26.75” – Feeling like a surfboard, the 7’5” was a hit among testers for its ability to float riders up to 80kg, yet turn heads in performance! The narrow nose wants to whip through turns and allows you to sit deep in the pocket of waves. The higher nose rocker feels more forgiving, while the thin rails nose and tail feel ultra-responsive to foot pressure.

7’10” x 28” – At 104L, the new 7’10” is slightly thinner yet longer than the previous 7’7”, making the float feel less corky despite the reduced volume. The added length and narrower nose aids late entry in hollower waves, giving you more speed to confidently make critical sections. Squash tail feels smooth and secure when you drive off the bottom and hit the lip!

8’2” x 29” – Replacing the 8’0”, the extended length this year makes you able to catch waves that bit earlier and to hold its line in steeper drops. At 118L this will be a highly popular model for riders up to 95kg, bridging the gap between the much loved 8’5” and 8’0” of previous years. A new fin position gives you the needed bite and manoeuvrability, coupled with drive through turns!

8’7” x 29.5” – Retaining the same dimensions as last year, whilst feeling more stable and less corky from the flatter deck. Fine rails and a sharp squash tail hold well in the bigger surf, allowing you to feel more in control to push harder on your bottom turns! Slightly flatter tail rocker and pulled in nose translates into a faster down the line speed.

9’0” x 30” – The largest in the PRO range, the 9’0” remains a favourite for riders up to 120kg. The new outline is faster generating speed, and easier to rotate through turns as it has reduced swing weight. The option is you are after max stability but pro surfing performance.

9’6” x 27” GUN – The Gun remerges with an all new shape, designed as a step-up model for surfing big waves. The narrower nose outline optimises speed so you can race down the wave face and escape white water in critical sections. The pin tail gives you a lot of hold and control at high speeds, while retaining some width for stability. Available as a quad and thruster, the fin angles are straighter for increased speed and drive. Thin rails and slight vee at the tail help you harness the speed for controlled bottom turns.

What are the new fins?

The new Carbon Surf fins offer performance you can feel.

Ultra-light carbon surf fins will enhance your performance in the waves, providing more drive, stronger grip and faster speed out of turns.

The carbon construction creates a stiffer fin, offering incredible drive as it grips and holds during your bottom and top turns. Fine-tuned after numerous prototypes and tests to provide some flex in the tip of the fin, creating reflex and spring out of turns. As the profile gets wider towards the base of the fin, more layers of carbon help stiffen the performance for more drive and hold.

The new carbon centre and side fins up the game not only in optics, but you can feel the difference in performance and weight. The carbon fins are up to 25% lighter. The Spice and Pro Blue Carbon models have 4.5 and 4.7 side fins, as well as 120 and 140 centre fins. Carbon fins are also available as an aftermarket item.

What is the difference in the construction?

Starboard not only make a range of board shapes, but the board design can also come in different constructions, depending on the performance, durability and weight you seek from the board.

The PRO comes in the Limited and Blue Carbon Pro. The GUN version comes in Blue Carbon.
